Jen + Craig / Engagement

The entire month of May was filled with weddings and engagements every weekend, so instead of enjoying the only available Saturday in June I have free, I decided to stimulate one of my other passions in life [wine] and work for the French Lick Winery at the 10th annual Vintage Indiana Wine & Food Festival.

It was an honor that Jen and Craig were gracious enough to schedule their engagement lifestyle session around my philanthropy, and the photo locations they chose turned out to be a storytelling experience!

Jen and Craig met each other while tailgating before a Colts game — so naturally we agreed to start the evening off at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indy, home of our Indianapolis Colts. GO COLTS!

Trying to capture the immense size of the stadium in context with a couple is a challenge we’ve conquered before, but when you’ve got such an outgoing and good-looking couple as these two … why spend time taking scenery photos?

Jen and Craig were especially proud that they had jerseys sporting numbers from current Colts’ players; I complimented them on having the representative colors of blue vs. white / home vs. away jerseys.

After spending some more time around the stadium, we headed further uptown to the Veteran’s Memorial Plazaor as Craig calls it, ‘the Mall’ (sorry, Craig!).

When scoping out the surroundings, I joked how neat it would be if they would roll-up their pant legs and dip their feet into the fountain. I didn’t realize I had caught one of the ducks squalking around in front of them until I was “chimping” the back of my LCD — ironically, that’s how many real moments just happen.

A wardrobe change and a few city blocks later resulted in these colorful combinations:

This next amazing photo nearly got us in some serious trouble for trespassing and photographing on United States’ Federal property … but moments before being harassed and chased off by an armed security officer, I snapped this perfectly composed frame — the risk was totally worth the reward:

Apparently, “standing on top of a table to take a picture” isn’t something the Feds take lightly and will earn you a visit from Barney Fife to investigate the situation. <end of sarcasm />

We laughed and joked about our “run-in” with the authorities all night long, but secretly I kept looking behind my back to make sure a caravan of black SUV’s with dark tinted windows wasn’t following us around.

A final wardrobe change and with the golden hour upon us, we grabbed a quick pick-me-up from SBUX and re-convened at the Lockerbie Square Historic District.

The diffused sunlight was some of the yummiest light we’ve seen all year (in the parlance of Jasmine Star), and a 200+ year-old cobblestone street was all we needed for the perfect ending to our eventful evening.

We’re so excited about Jen and Craig’s wedding this Fall and the reception they’re planning at the Indiana State Museum. We had a fabulous time spending the evening with them and have some incredible stories to tell from our experiences — you guys are awesome!
